Numbering our days
Psalm 90:12
I have
lived approximately 24000 days – is that numbering my days?
I cannot
number the days I have left
Two main
thoughts:
1.
Physical
numbering including longevity of patriarchs
2.
Spiritual
meaning of ‘”numbering”
A.
If
I had a lifespan like Adam, I would have been born in 1395 and I would not die
till 2345 AD
i.
I
could have sailed with Columbus
ii.

iii.

iv.

vi.

of electricity, phone, car, plane
vii.
How
many children would Sandy and I have?
viii.
We
would be enjoying our great great great
great, great, great grandchildren
B.
We
think it is odd to outlive our children. They were outliving eight generations
i.
Shem
outlived eight generations including Abraham!
ii.
Lifespans
reduced after the flood significantly
iii.
Long
lifespans coincide with muliple
wives
iv.
Fruitful
multiplication Gen 1
v.
Other
cultures have records of longevity (Sumerian king list)
vi.
Science
says it can neither be proven or disproven
vii.
Some
say it is a Mis-translation: They mixed Lunar months
with solar years, etc
But look at Gen 5:12-15 Kenan, etc
must have been only six years old when he became a father.??
C.
The
Bible is the reference source. We do not get any help from human wisdom.
i.
God
created everything good Gen 1:31
ii.
Good
= uninterrupted life
iii.
Sin
= interrupted life = death
iv.
Death
is a process
v.
The
day you eat you will die (Gen 2:17)
vi.
They
were swallowed up by death / consumed by fire. Fire burns till everything is
burned up. So does death
vii.
Adam
lived many years but he died
viii.
You
and I are born into Adam’s death
ix.
Sin
changed everything.
1.
Germs,
etc
2.
murder,
etc
3.
dying, etc.
x.
Flood
removed the population. Gen 6-9
xi.
Suggestion
that it also removed UV protection.
xii.
World
was repopulated but only those who were alive before the flood enjoyed the long,
fruitful lifespan.
D.
Lifespan not a problem. Life quality is
(number days)
i.
Adam
/ Jesus 1 Cor 15:22; 42-49
ii.
Psalm
90:12 Gain a heart of wisdom.

5:15,16
Conclusion: What do you think of Jesus’ lifespan?
What
is the life-expectancy of a Christian? Life-expectancy is normally less than
lifespan but for a Christian our life expectancy is FOREVER. Our days are
numberless.
"I watched
till thrones were put in place, And the Ancient of
Days was seated; His garment was
white as snow, And the hair of His head was
like pure wool. His throne was
a fiery flame, Its wheels a burning fire;
